Safe Software is adjusting its Annual Maintenance pricing for the FME Platform
Since the 1st of August 2025, all legacy FME Platform products have been formally deprecated and updated to FME Form and FME Flow licences. Consequently, the existing Annual Maintenance pricing structure for legacy products ceased on the 31st of July 2025.
Maintenance prices remained unchanged for over twenty years, despite constant innovation in the platform and the addition of new features and the old pricing structure no longer aligned with the advanced capabilities and structure of the current FME offerings. These changes for new purchases commenced on May the 1st 2023, but customers who purchased licenses before that date had a little over 2 years to transition. The adjustments now reflect the updated value provided by the modern FME Platform.
All maintenance renewals after this date will adopt the new pricing, aligned with the latest list prices for FME Form and FME Flow. If you have any questions about these changes, need to discuss your options or want to explor flexible subscription options, Avineon Tensing is here to help.
We understand that announcements regarding pricing adjustments can raise questions. To help clarify these upcoming changes to FME Annual Maintenance, we've put together responses to some commonly asked questions below. If your question isn’t answered here, you can always contact our team with any specific inquiries.

Quick Fire Questions
Why has the Annual Maintenance pricing changed?
The Annual Maintenance pricing has been updated to reflect the enhanced value and capabilities of the modern FME Platform (FME Form and FME Flow). FME maintenance prices have been constant for more than 20 years; these adjustments align the pricing with current product advancements and the enhanced reach and functionality that the FME Platform now has.
When do the new Annual Maintenance prices take effect?
The adjusted Annual Maintenance prices now apply to renewals processed after the 1st of August 2025. Maintenance pricing for legacy FME licenses is no longer available. All renewals now use the new FME Form and FME Flow maintenance pricing structure.
How will these changes affect my existing FME Desktop or FME Server licences?
You can continue using your existing licences under their current maintenance terms. However, when your maintenance comes up for renewal after the 1st of August 2025, the renewal will be processed based on the new FME Form and FME Flow pricing structure, regardless of the original product licence type.
What are FME Form and FME Flow, and what do they replace?
In 2023, Safe Software introduced FME Form, FME Flow and FME Flow Hosted. These products replaced the previous FME Desktop Editions (Base, Professional, Esri/Intergraph, Database and Smallworld), FME Server and FME Cloud products respectively. This simplifies licensing significantly, along with maintenance.
Moreover, since the FME Desktop Professional Edition was one of the most popular editions of FME, any user with an original Edition lower than the Smallworld Edition, gets an instant upgrade, as all format connectivity is automatically unlocked with FME Form and Flow! This change ensures all users receive full functionality. Legacy products (all older FME Desktop Editions and FME Server) will be officially deprecated and updated to FME Form and FME Flow going forward.
My Annual Maintenance is paid up beyond 1 August 2025. What happens?
Your current pre-paid Annual Maintenance term will be fully honoured until its expiry date. The transition to FME Form/Flow licences and the application of the updated pricing will occur only upon your next renewal date following the expiry of your pre-paid term.
What does FME Annual Maintenance include?
Annual Maintenance provides access to essential benefits, including all product updates (new versions and feature enhancements), regular software and security updates, and comprehensive technical support from Avineon Tensing. It is included for the first year with any new FME product purchase, and annual renewal is required to maintain these benefits.
Can I continue using my perpetual FME licences without active Annual Maintenance?
Yes, you can continue to use perpetual licences even if Annual Maintenance expires. However, you will no longer receive product updates, security patches, or technical support. If you wish to reinstate Annual Maintenance later, you will typically need to pay the missed fees covering the period since the original expiry date.
What if these pricing changes pose a challenge to my budget?
We understand that budget planning is crucial. If you have concerns or constraints regarding these maintenance changes or your overall FME licensing needs, please contact us. As your local FME partner, we can discuss your situation and explore flexible options, including subscriptions, that may suit your budget.
Are subscription options available and is maintenance included?
Yes, various FME subscription models are available offering potentially unlimited access to FME Form and FME Flow. Subscriptions provide a predictable annual cost and always include Annual Maintenance benefits (updates, support).
Can I transition my existing perpetual licences to an FME Subscription?
Yes, it is possible to roll your existing perpetual licences into an FME Subscription. You would then pay a single annual fee which includes maintenance for all the functionality covered by the subscription. Contact us to discuss how this would apply to your specific licences.
If I recently renewed Annual Maintenance, can I get credit towards a Subscription?
Yes. If you choose to move to an FME Subscription shortly after renewing traditional Annual Maintenance, a prorated credit for the remaining months of your paid maintenance term can typically be applied towards the first year's subscription fee. Let us know if this applies to you.
Is multi-year pricing available for FME Subscriptions?
Yes, multi-year pricing options are available for FME Subscriptions, which can offer additional budget predictability.
Are older versions of FME still supported?
Safe Software provides technical support for each version of the FME Platform for three years following its public release date. Versions older than three years are considered 'retired releases' and are no longer officially supported under standard Annual Maintenance. To check if your version of FME is still supported take a look here and get in touch with us to discuss your options.
