The price starts at £1,000 per year for 500GB of storage, additional storage in blocks of 500GB are available at £250 per year.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. To get started, create an account on our staging environment at https://arcgisbackup.com/dashboard and follow the prompts until you reach the homepage. Once you have done this, email uk@avineon-tensing.com and we will provision storage to your account. The trial gives you full access to Backup Manager so you can test backup and restore workflows with your own data.

Note: the ArcGIS Marketplace was retired by Esri in March 2026 access to the Backup Manager through the Marketplace is no longer possible.

Frequently asked questions

What permissions does Backup Manager need?

Backup Manager uses an OAuth integration that requires administrative privileges in your ArcGIS Online organisation. This is necessary to read all items, export feature services and restore content. The integration does not have access to your ArcGIS Online billing or user management settings.

How long does a backup take?

Backup duration depends on the number and size of your feature services. A typical organisation with 20 to 50 services completes a full backup in under 30 minutes. Individual web maps and applications back up in seconds. You can view live progress from the dashboard.

How many backup versions are kept?

You control retention. For each schedule, you set how many versions to retain. Older versions are automatically pruned when the limit is reached. There is no hard cap: you could keep 50 versions of a critical service if your storage allocation allows it.

Can I download my data?

Yes. Every feature service backup includes a file geodatabase that you can download to your own storage. This is useful for offline archiving, compliance requirements or loading into ArcGIS Pro for analysis.

What happens if a backup fails?

The platform retries failed backups automatically. You receive an email notification if a backup fails after retries. The dashboard shows the status of every backup job, including any error details.

Is my data secure?

Backups are encrypted at rest and in transit. Storage is hosted on AWS and you can choose from a range of geographic regions to meet data residency requirements. Each customer's data is logically isolated. The OAuth integration means Backup Manager never sees your ArcGIS Online password.

Does Backup Manager back up ArcGIS Hub?

No. ArcGIS Hub sites are not currently backed up. Hub support is on the roadmap, targeted for the next 6 to 12 months. In the interim, Avineon Tensing can provide an FME-based workflow to capture and archive Hub content alongside your Backup Manager subscription.

Does Backup Manager back up ArcGIS Notebooks?

No. ArcGIS Notebooks are not currently backed up. Notebook support is on the roadmap, targeted for the next 6 to 12 months. As with Hub, an FME-based interim solution is available. Contact us to discuss adding this to your subscription.

Can I access the storage repositor Backup Manager uses directly?

No. The Backup Manager storage repository is isolated for security reasons. Direct customer access to the repository is not supported.

What backup schedules are available?

Daily and weekly schedules are supported.

What timezone do scheduled backups use?

Scheduled jobs run in your local timezone.

Are email notifications available?

Yes. Email notifications are sent on backup completion and on failure.

Does Backup Manager support retention policies?

You control how many backup versions to keep per schedule. When the version limit is reached older backups are automatically pruned. Time-based retention policies (for example, keep daily backups for 30 days) are under review, but are not yet available.

Is there a roadmap?

Contact us for more details on our enhancement roadmap, currently Hub and Notebook support are the nearest-term priorities, targeted for the next 6 to 12 months. Other items are under review based on customer demand. If you have specific requirements, contact us to discuss how they align with the roadmap.

Can I restore a single layer from a feature service?

No. Feature services are backed up and restored as complete units, including all layers, related tables and attachments. You cannot restore an individual layer in isolation.

What support is included?

All subscriptions include email support during UK and US business hours. We aim to respond within one business day.

Does Backup Manager work with ArcGIS Enterprise?

No. Backup Manager is designed for ArcGIS Online only. For ArcGIS Enterprise, Esri provides the WebGISDR tool and third-party options like GEO Jobe Backup My Org and CivicLens Backup Utility support both platforms.

Can you build a custom backup solution if Backup Manager is not the right fit?

Yes. Avineon Tensing is an FME partner and can design and deliver a custom backup workflow as a consulting project. Using FME Form and FME Flow we build a workspace that connects to your ArcGIS Online organisation, exports your chosen items to the formats and destinations you need and runs on a schedule with error handling and notifications. This approach suits organisations that already use FME and need ArcGIS Enterprise support alongside ArcGIS Online or want backup integrated into a wider data pipeline. Contact us to discuss scope and pricing.
