FME And The Esri Utility Network: Building A Digital Twin

Ben Walker, Senior Solution Architect for Utilities – Esri UK

Moving beyond ArcMap, utilities face the challenge of modernising their network data to enable a Digital Twin. This presentation will explore the opportunities of the Esri Utility Network, showcasing how it allows for detailed modelling of real-world assets, such as the inside of sewer chambers. Learn how Esri UK has leveraged FME to tackle common, complex data migration issues. We'll present practical examples of using FME to resolve stacked points, intelligently shorten pipes for new asset installation and implement essential data fixes, demonstrating FME's vital role in achieving data readiness for a modern utility network.

Metadata for the Masses: Solving the Empty Catalogue ProblemAT

Siobhan Ryan & Dave – Avineon Tensing

Manually keying metadata is nobody's idea of fun, yet it's essential for effective data discovery. This session explores how to use FME to automate the generation of metadata and keyword tags for any dataset in your inventory, regardless of format. We'll demonstrate how extracting existing data properties can create a "good enough" baseline, significantly improving searchability instantly. We'll highlight that unvalidated, machine-generated metadata is far superior to none at all and by providing a tangible starting point, we empower your Subject Matter Experts to 'refine', rather than create, streamlining validation and making data cataloguing far less painful!

Helping Schools Become Genuinely Smartphone Free

David Eagle, Geospatial Advisor – Smartphone Free Schools Rating

Smartphones negatively impact children's concentration, behaviour and well-being in schools. The Smartphone Free Schools Rating initiative establishes clear standards to help schools foster genuinely smartphone-free environments, leading to improvements in academic attainment, attendance and a reduction in bullying. Achieving the ambitious goal of every school in England and Wales reaching Gold status by 2030 hinges on efficient data collection and management. This session details how Avineon Tensing partnered with the non-profit to solve their data challenges using FME Flow Hosted. By automating manual workflows, the partnership ensured the resilience and scalability of the solution, allowing the charity to focus its valuable volunteer time on critical outreach and support, ensuring more children benefit from happier, healthier childhoods.

The Mathematical Fingerprint: Orchestrating AI Embeddings with FMEAT

Simon Green & Oliver Morris – Avineon Tensing

Struggling to manage and categorise complex data at scale? This session introduces AI Embeddings: a transformative technique that converts unstructured data like imagery or long-form text into a series of numbers called vectors. These vectors act as a "mathematical fingerprint," allowing computers to understand the inherent meaning and context of your data, rather than just relying on basic attributes. In this session we'll demonstrate how FME orchestrates the end-to-end workflow: generating embeddings, storing them in a vector database and performing similarity analysis to automate data classification. Whether you're identifying real estate with a specific "interior vibe" or grouping related datasets in a massive catalogue, you'll learn how this approach provides a sophisticated way to find the wood from the trees.

FME Orchestration: Seamless CDE Integration for Major Projects

David Oxlade, Senior GIS Consultant – Mott MacDonald

Major infrastructure projects generate thousands of documents across multiple stakeholders. When access to a Common Data Environment (CDE) like Oracle Aconex is limited, relying on manual downloads introduces delays and errors. This presentation shows how FME automation delivers essential value. It integrates directly with Oracle Aconex to automate secure file downloads and structures and logs the data for complete auditability and traceability, sending real-time notifications to keep interdisciplinary teams informed. The result is a solution that ensures faster, more accurate data flow and significantly reduces manual effort, enabling seamless collaboration and greater efficiency on large-scale projects.

Beyond the Workspace: Delivering Mini-Solutions with FME Flow AppsAT

Simon, Siobhan, Dave & Clare Scarbrough – Avineon Tensing

We go behind the scenes of our 12-day "Countdown to Christmas" event, where we deployed a suite of FME Flow Workspace Apps to engage the FME community through games and data challenges. This session demonstrates how Workspace Apps can deliver packaged, self-service solutions from internal reporting tools to public data services without the need for custom web development. We will lift the lid on four specific technical highlights: orchestrating a Scottish Gritter tracker using Esri feature services, leveraging Vibe Coding to generate complex reports that previously required a developer and utilising FME's latest PDF tools for automated outputs. Finally, we'll show how we used FME and Excel templating to automate our own event admin, providing real-time visibility into user engagement across all twelve challenges.

Updating Historic Data to Improve Future Reporting

Dean Ellison, GIS Manager – The National Lottery Heritage Fund

FME Form and Flow have helped The National Lottery Heritage Fund to revolutionise the reporting potential of 30 years of historic grant award data. Managing decades of data introduces complex challenges, which FME is uniquely positioned to solve by enabling us to process datasets and connect to APIs that were previously inaccessible. This session will showcase two critical data transformation initiatives. Firstly, we'll demonstrate our FME process for correcting thousands of historical project locations linked to retired postcodes and show our next steps in developing a responsive FME Flow automation, to proactively maintain address accuracy for ongoing data analysis. Secondly, having working with Avineon Tensing to hone our approach, we'd like to show you how we use FME to access the 360 Giving API to match grant-awarded organisations to their unique IDs; by back-populating these IDs, we can overcome challenges from organisation name changes and application variations, enabling us to create vastly improved, high-quality organisation profiles for future reporting.

New Methods in Road Safety Analysis using Rich Geospatial Data and Machine Learning

Angus Spence, Principal Consultant – SYSTRA

How do we save lives on Britain's roads when collision data is sparse and stochastic in nature? SYSTRA's new digital solution, Collision Seek, addresses this challenge using rich geospatial data and emerging machine learning techniques. The application serves to surface collision type and severity inference associated with any specified physical environment in Great Britain using environment semantic embedding machine learning models. The tool affords insight to road collision risk across both motorised and non-motorised user groups, helps identify appropriate mitigations, and how such mitigation should be prioritised across road networks.
